This here is a little work I've been working on for a while now. I'll post the first chapter here too see how well it's received. If there are likes/ reviews, I'll gladly post more.
Warning: This isn't you're ordinary cardfight fanfiction. This is DARK. There is plenty of death, sadness, betrayal, and a lot of other stuff. It is also interactive- at certian points during the story, you have options of what to do or say, and effects how you progress through the story.

Happy reading.
Fade To Black - Black Memories:
“Iris, get up.” Came a voice she did not recognize. She froze for a minute in the bed she was in. She grasped her blanket lightly... or rather, the blanket she had on, because it didn't feel right to her. She got up and looked around, a headache making her clutch her head She looked on her bed, where two teddy bears were glaring back at her.
There was a knock on the door, and in came a young girl with light brown hair and light blue eyes- much like Iris's. “Come on, Sis. Mom already said it's time for breakfast.”
“Um... right.” Iris said... and she smiled. “Sorry, Airi... I'll be down in a little bit.” She said, and her head pulsed again, before it faded away. She got dressed in her usual clothing- a purple shirt and black jeans, and headed downstairs for breakfast.
“Sorry.” Iris said, sitting down in her usual spot at the table. “What are we having?”
Her mom set down a plate of pancakes She smiled and dug in. Afterwords, she cleaned up with her mom and walked out, heading for her school.
There was a line forming at the gate, and information unwittingly popped into her head: The school she was going to be conducting searches for the next few weeks: someone had smuggled drugs or the like in.”
One of the students patted her down. “Wow, not a hair out of place.... not even hidden bubble gum. You're a model student, Iris.”
“I...am?” She said, and clutched her head again... another headache?
“Anyway, off you go. Have a good day....”
But Iris was already running into the school building... some weird sense had come over her, and she had hurried on inside.
She ran, almost mechanically, to her classroom- 3-A, and ran to her seat. She took a deep breath, massaging her temples gently.
“You okay, Iris?” Came a womanly voice from next to her- a woman with light blue eyes and short brown hair.
“Oh ya um....” Iris said, thinking for a moment. It was like there was a giant blank. That girl was _____, Iris's best friend. They've been friends since they were ______ and they always liked to __________________________”
Like static that comes with switching channels, the name popped up into her head. “Thanks Fiona, but I just had a bit of a headache.”
Fiona nodded, sitting in the seat next to her. “So, what are your plans for the day? Got soccer practice today?”
She closed her eyes, thinking about it. She definitely had the build of a soccer player- the long legs and slim build. It would make sense she could play the game. “Ya, I guess I am.”
Fiona seemed to do a small squeal. “You know, I'm always a bit jealous... but then again, not many people can say they knew a star player before she hit the big time?”
“...you think I can make it big?” Iris asked
“Do I thi- Iris, you have a full ride to university! Of course you'll make it big.”
Iris smiled at that, sitting back. “But first, school/”
They both made a -bleh- face as the teacher came in for class.
…
The bell rang , designating an end to the school day. However, for the diligent sportswoman, it was off to Soccer practice. For an hour, she worked and drilled with her team, going over formations for the tournament against the ____ ____”
“Good work, Iris.” Came a call from the captain, and Iris waved at him as she left to go change back into her regular clothes. She relaxed with a smile as she headed off.
“Hey Iris.” Came a voice. Iris turned to head the boy she liked, ________, looking at her. _____ didn't really talk to many people, so this was a rare surprise.
“Oh, hi!” She said, which was the best she could come up with.”
“I was thinking... you, me a movie friday night!”
Iris blinked as her eyes brightened. “Sounds fun.”
___ returned the smile. “I'll see you then.”
….
The next morning, Iris woke up with a smile. The night had been spent by _______ and _____.
That statement seemed odd to Iris, now that she thought about it. She knew had done something last night to celebrate being asked out by _____.
She paused again as an intense headache came over her.
During breakfast, Airi looked at her during an attack. “So, are you you still going to practice?”
“Oh um... ya... now's not the time...I have a bit of a headache.” She said.
“Oh, really? That sounds so cool.” Airi said.
Static hit her head and she clutched it- that wasn't a proper response to what she had just said. “Airi, what do you....
She clutched her head again, harder than ever. 'I don't have a sister..”
Iris got up and ran... she wasn't sure why she was running, or to where... but she just ran. Those headaches she's been having... this increasing feeling that something was wrong.. now, it was like a heartbeat... pounding and pounding away
She stopped and caught her breath... how long had she been running? She hadn't been paying attention, and honestly? She didn't care at the moment.
When she looked up, she was at the entrance to her school. It was still early morning, but the students were slowly trickling in.
“Oh Iris, how are you doing today?” Came the voice of the student doing the search today. “Ready for today's inspection?”
Iris just continued moving... but even then, the student was still talking. “Alright, let's see... like always, nothing at all. You really are an idol, you know.”
She took a breath, slowly beginning to panic, and ran to her sear.
When she got to her classroom, she was beginning to hyperventilate. She gripped the chair, trying to stay calm.
“Hey, Iris... what, you're date didn't go ok?”
“Leave me alone, Fiona.” Iris said.
“Oh, that's a shame. Better luck next time..” Fiona said.
“SHUT UP!!” Iris shouted. Instead of the intended response, the students continued talking amongst themselves.
She ran out again, just not caring anymore, and continued running, She reached the soccer field, and her legs simply refused to move anymore, and not just from the fact that she was slowly going into shock... hyperventilating , shouting, more running, it wasn't a surprise, really. But, more than that, reality was catching up. “This can't be real... none of this is possible! Why... I can't remember... anything...”
As she lay, her heart slowly beginning to stop, it finally clicked. “It's... not real. That's it, isn't it? All of this... was an illusion, wasn't it? I...see...those feelings of unfamiliarity... that's it. This world is a lie...”
She coughed once. “This is... bull! I want the truth! Why do... I have to to die like this. I want... the truth.”
“With that, you've earned it...” A voice popped in her head... it was powerful, like it held weight in the air, and it echoed like a bell.
Once the voice fade, the world around her seemed to crumble... like glass, it simply shattered. Light shone on Iris, and she received a feeling of warmth as she took in a breath, her heart rate somehow stabilization it's own.
“Stand up, you've earned your right to exist.” The voice said, and Iris obeyed, getting up and catching her breath. “With it, You've earned the right to fight, and the right to stand up.
“I...see...” Iris lied. She clutched her head, which was beginning to clear up.
“Your memory hasn't returned, so I'm not too surprised you don't remember. You were the last remaining one, and now that you're entry is accepted, we can begin.”
Iris clutched her head again, and a sudden feeling of weariness came over hear. As she fell asleep, she heard the voice say. “And now... this war of the vanguards can now begin.
Chapter 2- Black Tournament:
Chapter 2 Contestants Remaining: 12,288
When she awoke, Iris was lying in the school infirmary. She sat up, rubbing her head. How exactly did she get her again? She thought back to the last moments she had spent awake, and it all returned to her. She had been entered in a very special kind of Vanguard tournament- high stakes, winner takes and keeps everything. The prize was very very special: The winner would receive any wish their heart desired, any wish at all.
Entering had not been easy. Once she entered, she automatically went into the preliminary round- all participants had been stripped of their memories and placed in an alternate reality, in the most ideal situation for the participant. It would be hard to break away from a life where everything was going perfectly but, if the person managed to break free from that world and demand that truth within three days, she proved she held the right to exist, and thus became a participant. The losers well, forfeited that right, and were 'erased'.
She got up, stretching a bit. She had almost failed... within inches of dying. But she knew that was only the beginning. The preliminary wasn't the only part with high stakes. If you lose in a vanguard fight, you get erased from existence. The only one allowed to exit the tournament would be the one with the prize.
Once she was up, she walked out of the infirmary and looked around. Her phone began to ring... no, it wasn't HER phone, but a phone provided by her by the tournament. It was a special sort of phone: the battery wouldn't die out, it would provide her her vitals, if requested, and gave updates on information on the tournament. She was glad to have something like that on hand- you never know when one would need it.
She pressed the button and a voice filled the speakers, and Iris recognized it as her 'little sister', Airi. “Greetings, and congratulations to all those who have proven they have the right to exist. As of right now, there are currently 12, 288 contestants aiming for the honor of receiving their wish. This number is unprecedented.
Iris blinked. “That's... a lot of people.”
Airi's voice continued to blare from the speakers of her phone. “To handle this in a timely matter, a decision has been reached by A.N.G.E.L Instead of single matches. Fight between players will now take place on teams of three.
From over the school, there was a loud clamour. “WHAT?” “Teams of three? How's that going to work?”
“You have all been assigned special rooms in the nearby hotels. These rooms lead into alternate realities, powered by A.N.G.E.L 's might. When you hold up your phone to these rooms, you will be allowed entry, and there you will meet the two people assigned to be your opponent. The rules remain the same: if a member loses a match, their existence is forfeit. If the match is decided with one loss and two wins, the member of the losing team that one will join the winning team, to replace the lost member.”
“So, in other worlds, it's not really a 'team' fight... unless they were adding something else...” Iris thought to herself.
“Also, we are introducing a 'point' system for how well you cooperate in special events and other things. Working as a team, winning after calling Final Turn, and the like will increase your point value. Failing to win in that turn will result in a loss of points. When one team remains, the person with the highest point value will be declared the victor. In addition, some fights will be declared tag fights.”
“... of course.” Iris said. That was a efficient solution... a way of being in a team, yet competing against them.
“A.N.G.E.L. Will not hinder anyone in their attempts to harm or kill other players. However, should the attempt fail or done in presence of witnesses, the attackers will receive a penalty in their match. This varies from starting with 3 cards, or discarding a card at the end of your turn. That is all.”
The voiced faded. A.N.G.E.L …. that was the name of whatever was running the tournament, a source of incredible power, as far as Iris knew.
Her phone beeped again, this time with a simple message. “Broadway hotel, room 806.” ….
It took Iris twenty minutes, but she arrived at the designated location. Upon trying to open the hotel door, Iris felt an electric shock that made her pull her hand back. Upon thinking about it, Iris held up her phone. It beeped once, and the door began to glow with a bright blue light. Iris felt that that was a good a green light as any,so she opened the door, receiving no resistance.
There was a flash of light and a warm feeling as Iris stepped through, and she got the feeling she wasn't in the earth she knew... the air felt different. A.N.G.E.L. Had spared no expenses. Big screen tv, plush furniture, the works
“Ah, so you must be the third.” Came a voice, and Iris looked to where a man walked in, regarding her with dark green eyes. “What's your name?”
“Iris!” Came another voice, and she turned as she saw someone she recognized. “Fiona? You're a player?”
“You betcha!” Fiona said, winking. “This is Branden... I’m glad to be teemed up with a friendly face!”
“You realize that we're still trying to kill each other, right?” Branden said. “NO point being happy to meet someone.”
“Well, still!” Fiona said. “Might as well have fun, right?”
“I...guess.” Branden said, laying down on the couch like he really couldn't care less, grabbing a soda and downing it.
The TV came on all on it's own, revealing lifelines of all three members. Next to it was a message. “The first round of the tournament will take place tomorrow. Failure to arrive will result in erasure.”
….
Iris had spent the night catching up with Fiona. Apparently, the Fiona from the last day was An A.N.G.E.L construct they tried getting Branden to talk, but he wasn't interested.
After waking up and getting ready, they walked into a sports stadium which, surprise, was an alternate reality. As they walked in, everybody was talking, looking at other people like they were prey, while also trying to seem friendly.
Fiona was scanning the room. Her eyes caught a man with black jeans and a black undershirt. “So that's him...”
“Hmm?” Iris asked, leaning over and looked at him. “What about him?”
“That's Tyler... he was the first one to clear the prelims. For doing that, he's started with a 1000 point boost, and is thus currently in the lead.”
Iris looked around. Turns out they weren't the only ones looking at him. Aside from the two people next to him, presumably his 'teammates', a lot of people were looking at Tyler like he was their next meal. He didn't seem to bother, and kept his eyes closed as he waited for the matches to begin. Iris hoped to never meet. Anyone who didn't feel pressure from being targeted wasn't someone she wanted to fight.
“The first matches of the tournament will now begin. All players meet in the center.”
Iris didn't understand how all of these people were going to fight in a stadium, but it quickly made sense: yet another alternate reality. As soon as she stepped onto the field, the air changed again, and the stadium was empty, except for another team of three that looked back at them. Iris didn't really know any of themselves
“Now beginning the first round. Will the first two members go to the center and bein the fight.
Before Iris could ask, Branden said. “I'll go first.” And walked past her, the blazer he was wearing nearly hitting her face. On the other side of the field, a red haired man was taking the field. The starting vanguards were placed, the decks shuffled.
“Match one, Branden Rodriguez versus Asia Evens. Commence.” Airi said
“Stand up the Vanguard!” They both said, flipping over their units.
“Lancer of the Skies, Orion” Branden said
“Wingal Brave.”
“I'll go first.” Branden said, drawing. “I ride Heaven's Lancer, Orion, Lancer of the Skies moves out..” He said, slamming a card down as the unit grew into a man with a menacing grin and a deadly lance. “Skill activate. When I ride him over Lancer of the Skies, I search my deck for all 4 copies of 'Master Lancer, Orion' from my deck. I send three to the drop zone, and add the remaining one to my hand. That ends my turn.
“Draw.” Asia said. “I ride Borga, and Wingal Brave moves behind him. Now, he's boosting the vanguard for an assualt on your own.”
“I do not guard.” Branden said, taking two damage- the drive was a critical.
He drew. “I ride Master Lancer, Orion. Call : Valkyrie Squadron Alpha Unit, Kyrie with Sergeant Mcflurry behind it. I move Lancer of the skies up Battle Phase. Master Lancer will attack your vanguard.”
“No guard.” Asia said.
“Drive check... it's a draw trigger. I'm adding 5000 power to Lancer of the Skies and I draw. Next,Lancer 's skill activates. I move three cards from my deck to my drop zone. Then I choose one card from my drop zone to my hand. I choose 'Major General, Mcflurry.” Lancer of the skies attacks your vanguard.
Asia took the damage. “Next, I attack you with Kyrie, boosted by Sergeant Mcflurry.
Asia grunted. “Epona will guard.”
Branded smiled. “At this time, Lancer of the Skies' effect activates. I move him into the oul, and the unit that failed to hit can stand back up. Once again, Kyrie is attacking your vanguard. Annoyed, he took the hit.
'That's a rough deck.' Iris said. “He forced guard, but the attack went through anyway. This was a good turn for Branden.'
“Stand and Draw.” Asia said. “I ride Blaster Blade. Counter-blasting one. Kyrie Retires.
Branden shrugged, and Asia called out Knight of Truth, Gordon. “Blaster Blade attacks.”
“I don't guard.” Branden said. No trigger this time, so Branden took one damage. Asia moved Wingal into the soul, pulling out Majesty Lord Blaster from his deck. He took another hit from Gordon.
“Stand and Draw. I ride Major General Mcflurry.” He said “I call Tank Lord, Christiana and Kyrie. Christiana's counterblast. I move all copies of her, besides the one on the field into the drop zone, and my vanguard gains an additional critical for the duration of this turn. Battle Phase. L Mcflurry is attacking your vanguard.”
“I call Epona and Govannon to guard. That's two triggers to pass.”
Branden have a bored. “Hmph. First check...It's a critical Trigger. I'm giving all effects to the vanguard”
“Your... vanguard?” Asia asked
Branden didn't bother anwsering. “Second Check... it's a draw trigger. I'm giving all power to my vanguard. Now, the special ability of my draw trigger activates. I send the draw trigger and one grade three to the drop zone, and the unit whom I gave the trigger power to gains an additional 4000 power. That's enough for the strike to hit.”
Asia blinked. “That's... Impossible!” Asia said, taking three damage, bringing him up to six.
There was a flash of red light. “The battle is over. Winner: Branden Rodriguez.”
Iris couldn't help but clap, he won before the enemy got to Grade 3! That was amazing!”
There was a feeling of static, and Asia hit the floor. Iris stared at him, and noticed that his complexion was starting to darken... eveentually, his skin was completely black, except for his face. Red lines flung across his body.
“Not... bad...” Asia said, coughing.
“Hmph. Dissappear.” Branden said, turning and walking back. Asia binked once, and he seemed to vaporize in the air.
“I'm... glad he's on our team.” Iris blinked
Chapter 3:
Chapter 3
Amazing win put aside, Iris had her own problem to deal with. It was now her turn to battle it out. She had to remember that, ultimately, the team didn't matter. She had to win this match, or she wouldn't be around to see the third match. Part of her wanted to try and delay her match by going third, but she knew it was now, or never.
She walked up to the field and onto the arena. Another person, a red haired woman with green eyes, looked at her. “So, you're my opponent, huh? I was expecting the other chick.”
Iris shrugged. “Don't know what to tell you. Now, come on and lets fight.”
The woman also shrugged. “No pre fight chat? Suit yourself.”
Airi's voice echoed out, like it did last time. “Second match: Iris Tsukiyomi versus Raine Jirata. Begin.”
“Stand up, the vanguard!”
“Lady that crossed the canyon.”
“Crimson Heart, Nahas.”
“I go first. I draw.” Iris said, looking at her hand. “I ride Big Swordsan, Little John. Lady that crossed the canyon moves back. That will end my turn.”
“I draw.” Raine said. “I ride Thousand Ray Pegasus, and Crimson Heart Moves back. Calling a second Thousand Ray Pegasus, and it's attacking your vanguard.
“I don't guard.” Iris said, Taking the damage.
“Now, with a boost from Crimson Heart, Thousand Ray Pegasus attacks your vanguard!”
“No guard.”
“Drive check... nothing.”
Iris took the damage, then drew. “I ride Shadow Beast Tamer., and I'll use her counterblast.” She said, flipping over a card in her damage zone. “You start by soul charging two cards.... good, now, I can choose 1 card on your rearguard circle, and move it into the soul. So Crimson Heart, in you go.”
Shadow Beast tamer threw her whip at the young Angel, who began to resist it's pull almost immedatly. Shadow Beast Tamer was stronger, and the angel got dragged into the soul. “Next, I choose one unit in your soul... like that draw trigger you just soul charged, and call it to a rearguard circle. So move that draw trigger to the circle your Thousand Ray Pegasus is on.”
Raine grimaced, moving Fever Therapy Nurse onto that circle. “Thousand Ray Pegasus Retires....”
“Oh, so she did that to replace an unfavorable unit with a far weaker one?” Fiona asked
“Not only that, but she prevented Nahas' from using her effect next turn. If she also had a Crimson Mind, Baruch while Crimson Crive Aphrodite is the vanguard, she would have been able to superior ride Metatron.” Branden decided to explain. “Now, Iris doesn't have to worry about a premature twin drive, or a potential 9k booster.”
“Oh... that's pretty impresssive!”
“I call Shouting Elephant and Cannonball Jumper. Using her skill, she copies the effects of your 'Iron Heart, Mastema' Since I have more damage than you, it gains power plus 3000. Shouting Elephant Attacks your vanguard.”
Raine took the damage.
“Now,With a boost from Lady that Crossed the Canyon, Shadow Beat Tamer attacks your vanguard.”
“No guard.”
“Drive Check... stand trigger activated. Plus 5000 power to Shouting Elephant, and he stands back up.”
“Damage Check, nothing.”
“Cannonball jumper attacks your vanguard.”
“Miracle Therapy Nurse will guard.” Raine said, the angel swiftly rushing to the aid.
“Shouting Elephant is attacking your vanguard.” Iris declared, and the strike hit. “That ends my turn.”
“I draw. I ride Crimson Drive, Aphrodie. I move Miracle Therapy Nurse back, and call Iron Heart, Mastema, a second one, and Crimson Mind, Baruch.” Raine said, though she looked visibly annoyed. Getting your superior ride chance swiped will do that to you.
“With a boost from Miracle therapy Nurse, Iron Heart will attack your vanguard.”
“I intercept with Shouting Elephant. He gains plus 5000 shield.”
“Aphrodite is attacking your vanguard.”
“No guard.” Iris said. Raine checked a critical, so Iris took 2 damage, and guarded the next accack.
“I stand and draw. I ride. Hell Walker, Mistress Tsunami. I call Fushia Demon Tamer, and her skill activates. First, you soul charge 2. Then, I get to choose a rearguard ability that lies in your soul, and copy it and keep it for 2 turns, and any clan restriction or requirement is treated as 'Full Moon' This turn, I'll copy the effect of your Thousand Ray Pegasus. I call a second fuchsia demon tamer, so soul charge once again, and she's copying the effect of your Thousand Ray Pegasus. I call cannonball jumper and copy the effect of your Doctroid Mecharos, and activate the counterblast. I move the top card of my deck onto the damage zone. Because I moved a card into my damage zone, both Fushia Demon Tamers gain an additional 2000 power.”
“Wow, what a way to use a clan's tricks against them.” Fiona said, and Branden simply nodded.
“I move Lady that Crossed the Canyon into the Soul, and I can give my other Cannonball Juggler the effect to make you soulcharge 2, and he gets to copy the ability of one of your units. He'll copy the effects of Doctroid Mechalos. Counterblast 1, I move one card from my deck to my damage zone. Both fuchsia tamers receive an additional 2000 power. Battle Phase, Fuschia Demon Tamer boosts Cannonball Juggler for an attack on your vanguard.
“Sunny Smile Angel and Crimson Mind, Baruch will guard.”
“Mistress Tsunami attacks your vanguard.”
“Critical Hit Angel will guard.”
“First check, nothing. Second check, draw trigger. I give power plus 5000 to My standing cannonball juggler, and he attacks your vanguard.
She damage checked, getting a draw trigger, and drew twice. “I ride Crimson Impact, Metatron. I use Her limit break, paying the counterblast and moving two units to the damage zone, and Calling two Burst shot bethanels. With a boost from bethanel, Mastema attacks your vanguard.”
“I'll take the hit... heal trigger. I recover one damage and give the power to my vanguard.”
“Metaron will attack your vanguard.”
“Cannonball juggler intercepts.” iris declared.
“First Check, nothing. Second second, Critical Trigger. I give all effects to iron heart, Mastema, and he attacks your vanguard.
Iris guarded, and drew. She flipped one card on her finger. “Even the god's can't stand up to the crack of her whip! Here to close the curtain on this act, I ride Shining Diety Tamer, Liquier! The Break Ride is online, giving Liquier 10000 power. I counter blast 1 twice, making you soul charge 8 cards alltogether. I call Giant Swordsman, Giant John to rearguard, and he'll attack your vanguard with a boost from fuschia demon tamer.”
Raine took the hit, and guarded the next rearguard attack.
“Now then, Liquier will attack your vanguard.”
“I guard with sunny smile angel.”
“First check, nothing. Second check... why, it's a critical trigger! All effects are going to my Vanguard.”
Iris looked at Raine, and gave a slight smile. “Go, Liquier, use your limit break!”
Liquier gave a sadistic smile, cracking her whip against Metatron three times. Everytime the whip connecting, a monster flew out of her . “You don't get the ability to tame gods without inflicting a little pain. As long as you have 16 or more cards in your soul, I can soul blast three of them to stand Liquier back up. She does just that, and attacks your vanguard once more.
Raine clenched her fist, “Pure Keeper Requiel will nullify that attack.” She said, dropping a card.
Iris shrugged. “Drive Check. First Check... Critical Trigger. I give all effects to Liquier. Second check... oh look, a critical trigger! All effects to my vanguard! Have at her, Liquier! Break through the limits once more!”
Metatron visibly screamed as Liquier cracked her whip again, leavin large red marks on her as three more creatures left her. “Liquier attacks your vanguard, coming at you with 35000 power and 4 critical!”
“I... I can't guard.”
“First check... nothing. Second check... nothing. Go, Holy Piercing Whiplash!”
Metatron flew against the wall, crashing into it as 4 cards flew to the damage zone.
“Winner, Iris Tsukiyomi.”
Raine knelt to the ground. “So brutal... so that's... the Full Moon Circus.”
Iris nodded. “I wish no one had to vanish... i'm sorry.”
Raine waved it aside like it was nothing. “I knew full well what was at stake... later.” She said, before dissappearing in black smoke. …
After her match, Fiona went using a Battle Sisters deck, which won 4-6. With a straight victory, the three were allowed to leave. Points were awarded to all three, with bonuses to Branden and Iris. Branden for calling final turn and winning before the opponent rode to grade three, and Iris for dealing 4 damage with one attack.
Fiona looked crestfallen. “I still have a hard time believing it... they actually...died....”
“Of course.” Branden said. “The top prize is a wish of the users choosing. Everyone here has something they want, and it's worth both killing and dying for. If that didn't hit home with the contestants before hand, it will now.”
Iris was silent. She didn't like it, but Branden was right. “So, what's our next move?”
“Since we won our matches pretty quickly, we're allowed to watch the other matches. Now's a good time to get intel on the other opponets.”
“who should we go look at?” Fiona asked?”
“I'm going to look at that current favorite.” HE said, walking back. Iris and Fiona found this to be a good idea, so they decided to tune in as well.
When they stepped into the stadium, Tyler was the only one remaining on the other team. Apparently, the other two had lost their matches, and thus their right to exist. As for Tyler's match, the enemy appeared to be set for a couple turns. Scarlet Which , CoCo was on the field, and the enemy had 6 cards in her hand and two 10k intercepts on the field.
“Final Turn.” Tyler said
Even from above, Iris blinked. “How does he plan on pulling that off? She's got all those cards, and 4 damage.”
Tyler drew. “Can you feel it? The creeping darkness that looms as the Goddess descends? Spread your wings over creation, I ride! Goddess of the Night, Nyx!”
A tall young woman entered the field, spreading out large black wings that loomed over Coco. “Break Ride Effect, Activate! Nyx Gains 10000 power, and two cards of yours are sent to the bind zone. Mordred's skill is activated, and I draw a card. Heartless' angel skill activates, raising it's power by 2000 Now, Goddess of the Night, sweep past the limits and shine! Limit Break! Counter blast 2! One card in your hand is bound, as well as one of your security guardians. Mordred's and Angel's skill activates, and I draw a card. Now, let's do this again! Limit Break! The other Security guardian, and one card in your hand takes a nap!”
Nyx snapped her fingers, as the cards shot out from the opponet's hand, and Darkness surrounded the security guardians, making it look like nothing was there.
“Battle Phase! Nyx is attacking your Vanguard!”
“I.... can't guard....” The opponet said, mystified.
“First check, nothing! Second check, critical trigger! 5000 to Mordred, and the critical to the Goddess. Go, Nyx! Wrath of the Night Queen!”
Nyx raised her sword, sending a shockwave that sent Coco flying, taking the damage.
“Winner, Tyler Smith!”
Tyler began walking towards the team that survived, due to him having to join that team, not looking back as his opponent turned to dust.
Chapter 4:Fading Friends:
Chapter 4
Contestants Remaining: 8192
It had been a couple of days since the end of the first round. When she saw how quickly the number of contestants had dropped, she almost fell to one knee. “So... many....:
Fiona looked equally sad. “Well... I guess we have to be ready for more of this, huh?”
She nodded. “We have to be ready for more of this... soon it will be down to just us... and..”
She didn't want to say it. Technically, she and Fiona were enemies. One of them was going to have to die eventually... maybe at the hands of one another. Fiona didn't say anything either, but she could tell they were thinking much the same thing.”
“At the end of every round, we have 3 days to enjoy ourselves.” Fiona recited, which is what Airi had said after the matches had finished. It was a small mercy, but Iris was glad she didn't have to fight to the death every day, “We've spent two of those days mulling around... what do you want to do on the third day?”
“I honestly have no idea.” Iris said as she looked around. They were in the main lobby of the arena, where most of the teams gathered to relax, like the three days they were spending might be their last.
Iris sighed. This was getting her nowhere. “Come on, let's go watch some T.V or something.” She said, and off they walked.
…
Tyler knew he was marked for death the second he walked out of his hotel room. His shoulder hairs stood up, and he felt murderous intent all around him. He continued walking casually, but he ran as so as he turned the corner.
He continued running, turning another corner. As he heard footsteps. He leapt out from the corner and kneed his attacker in the gut, and flipped him over. Before the attacker had the chance to recover, Tyler gave him a sharp kick in the head, and the man collapsed against the wall. After a moment, the man's skin turned black, and dissolved into nothingness.
Tyler exited his stance and cracked his knuckles. “An assassination attempt, huh?” He said, stretching his arms as he exited the alley, and made way for the lobby.
….
“Iris, why are you in this tournament?” Fiona asked once they were back in the hotel room.
She debated on what to say, “I can't go into the details right now but.... well, there's something I want done, and only A.N.G.E.L has the means to complete this wish.”
Fiona nodded. “That's fine, you don't have to tell me. Me... well, My family got caught in the middle of biological warware between countries. That have a fatal virus in them,,, they're dying, and they can't find a cure. They'll be dead before the end of the month. I'm here to keep them alive. If I win, I'll wish for them to be cured, and never get sick again.”
Iris nodded. “So you're fighting for your family. That's very noble.... but why are we talking about this?”
“I just wanted to get to know you a little better.” Fiona said with a slight smile that iris couldn't help but return. “Iris... you were my friend during the prelims, and I still think of you as one, so I hope we manage to survive until the end.
“... you know what? I'd like that too, so let's do our best.” She said.
Fiona nodded, and they soon fell asleep.
….
The next day, the second round had been announced. Iris could tell the lobby had emptied out, but only just a little bit.
“Here we go, round two. Let's do our best, Iris.” Fiona said, and they fist pounded their determination to the other.
When Airi gave the orders, everyone walked into the lobby, readying themselves for another round in which three people were guaranteed to die.
Iris scanned her opponents, and laser focused on one of them. “That's... Tyler!”
Tyler looked over to her, then went back to his bored self. Iris' eye twitched. “So he doesn't see me as a threat?” She asked, annoyed.
The first two battles went without a hitch. Iris won hers, just as Branden won his. Now, it was time for Fiona to go up against the last one, Tyler.
Fiona looked a little nervous as he approached. “Alright, I won't lose, come at me!”
Tyler tightened his sleeve. “As you wish.” He said.
Fiona too a breath, then nodded. “Stand up, Vanguard! Battle Sister, Eclair!”
“Maiden of the Night, Nyx.”
“Ladies First. I draw.” Fiona said, drawing “I ride Battle Sister, Maple. Eclair moves to rearguard. I end my turn.”
“I draw.” Tyler said, drawing a card. “I ride Lady of the Night, Nyx. Maiden's skill. Checking the top 8 for... Savior of the Night , Nyx is present. I add her to my hand. Lady of the night attacks your vanguard.”
“No guard.”
“Drive Check... draw trigger.” Tyler said, drawing one card.
“I draw!” Fiona said, drawing. She studied Lady of the Night. ' I had the advantage of knowing this was a ride chain, but it won't help me much in the long run. My best bet is to wipe him out as quickly as possible.'
“I ride Battle Sister, Mocha! I call two Battle Sister, Macaron to rear guard. Mocha attacks your vanguard.”
“No guard.” Tyler said.
“Drive check... nothing.”
“Damage check. Nothing.”
“Macaron, attack!”
“I got a draw trigger.” Tyler said, drawing a card. “I stand and draw. I ride Queen of the Night, Nyx. By riding over Lady of the Night with this unit, her skill allows me to search my deck for a Grade 1 unit, and add it to my hand.” He said, picking up his deck, looking through it, and choosing 'Savior of the Shadows', adding it to his hand. “I call Knight of Darkness, Mordred and Hope of te Fallen, Ever. I use Ever's skill, resting her. This let's me bind one card on your field until the end phase of your next turn, so take a hike, Macaron. Mordred's skill activates now, and I draw a card. I call Heartless Angel. Now, Heartless Angel attacks your vanguard.”
Fiona took the damage.
“Queen of the Night attacks your vanguard.”
“No guard.”
“Drive check... nothing.”
“Damage check... I got a draw trigger. Giving the power to my vanguard.”
“I end my turn.”
“Stand and Draw.” Fiona said, drawing “I ride Battle Sister Fromage. I attack your vanguard.”
“No guard.” Tyler said, shrugging.
“Checking the twin drive. First check, nothing... second check... it's a critical trigger. Giving the power to Macaron, and Fromage takes the critical.
“Damage check... nothing.... heal trigger. I recover one damage.”
Fiona took a breath. “All right, i'm done for now,”
“Your done, period. This is the final turn.” Tyler said.
Even Branden blinked at that. “She's at three damage! And has five cards in her hand! Not to mention you do't have your break ride online.”
“I don't need the break ride for this.” Tyler said, and a sharp, black aura surrounded him as he drew. “Can you feel the crushing darkness? Enter the fray and banish your foes to a endless nightmare! I ride Empress of the Night, Nyx....”
Nyx gave a loud cry as power swelled within her, and she began to glow with a black light. When the light dimmed down, Nyx was wearing a black and red dress, and was wearing a cold crown, weilding a pitch dark blade. “....Reverse.” He finished.
“...Reverse?” Fiona asked. “Never heard of that one.”
“No, no you haven't.” Tyler said, looking at Fiona with a slight grin... which was eery, coming from the one that was mostly quiet. “I call one Hope of the Fallen, Maria, and Activate the skills of both of them. I rest them both, and your front row rear guards are bound. Mordred's and Heartless Angel's skill's activate two, resulting in two cards and plus 4000 power to Angel. And now... make the limit's your slave! Limit Break! I lock both hope of the fallens. Bind three cards in your hand!”
Fiona Gasped as three cards shot out of her hand, hitting the floor. “Three cards bound, but only one card from mordreds skill... but Heartless Angel gains 6000 power. Heartless Angel Attacks your vanguard.”
“No guard... no damage trigger.”
“Empress of the night, Rain hell on her vanguard!”
“Perfect guard with Battle Sister, Chocolat!”
“Twin Drive Check.... Critical Trigger! All power to Nyx. Second Check... Heal Trigger. 5000 power to mordred... and now, Nyx! You may sap my life force! I activate her ability. /to pay for this ability, I have to lock a rearguard, like saber of the shadows, and preform a damage check! Doing a damage check... it's a critical trigger. 5000 power and the extra critical go to Nyx. “
Nyx turned around, looking at Tyler, and sliced at him with the sword. He didn't scream, kneeling as the blade connected with his arm. Nyx raised her energy, absorbing the power. She flared her sword, ready to strike again. “Go Nyx! Wrath of the Empress!”
Fiona cried out. “What? Nooooo!”
“Fiona!” Iris said, leaving the field and running towards Fiona as Nyx appeared and ran her sword through Fiona.
She caught Fiona as she fell. “Are you alright?”
“Guess it was a little too early to make a promise.” Fiona said with a laugh. Her body began turning to black. “Haha, beaten so easily... he's a strong one.I hope, at the very least, they find a cure for my family.”
Iris smiled. “I'm sure they will.”
Fiona nodded, and closed her eyes as she faded away into nothingness.
Tyler didn't say anything as he recovered his deck, and left the stadium. “Hey, wait a minute, you can't just leave!”
But , of course, he had already left.
“What a strong player....” Branden said, then his eyes lit up. “I am SO having a practice match with him later.”
“Didn't something seem off about that card he was using, though?”
“What, that reverse card? Ah, who cares? It's something new, that's for sure.” He said, walking out.
….
Later that night, as Iris was roaming the hallway, she stopped as she saw someone she hadn't expected to. “...Airi?”
Her 'little sister', and the spokesperson for A.N.G.E.L turned, waving her over. “Congratulations on winning your match... though it was bitter sweet, wasn't it?”
Iris nodded, taking a seat next to her. “What are you doing here?”
Airi shrugged. “I wanted some air is all.” She said, looking out. “I wonder who has enough strength to win this... i'm not allowed to say this, but I'm betting on either you or Branden. You both possess a large amount of strength.”
“Oh... thank you. That means a lot... little sis.” She said with a slight smile.
She shared that smile. “It WAS rather fun, acting like I had a family. I think you would make a good big sis.”
“Oh stop, you're making me blush.” Iris said, and they shared a laugh.
Airi got up. “I have to get going, but I'll see you later.”
Iris nodded, returning back to the Hotel. Tyler had taken up residence, but she decided not to speak to him, as she was unsure what to say to the man that had just killed a good friend of hers so easily. Besides, he had fallen asleep in his room. “I still can't believe how that match turned out.”
Branden nodded, who was grabbing a drink. “Get some sleep.”
“Are you...worried about me?”
“Don't flatter yourself.... I just have a feeling that tomorrow is going to be very interesting.” He said.
